Illuminated On March 30th, 2004, the Peninsula Gateway Monument was illuminated for the first time. Bathed in brilliant white light, the beauty of the central inlay depicting sunrise at the Millers Island Light serves as a symbolic beacon for North Point and a hearty "welcome home" for her fortunate residents! |

The North Point Peninsula Gateway Monument was formally dedicated on 30 November 2002, at a ceremony held in the Sparrows Point High School Auditorium. |

Symbology of the Design The columns and wall structure were constructed of oversized, worn and weathered brick, and oddly named by the manufacturer, "Bayshore". This antique-styled brick, complemented by the concrete spheres representing cannon balls adorning the tops of the columns, are nostalgic and representative of the North Point Peninsula hosting the Battle of North Point during the War of 1812. Centered within the wall is a sandblasted graphic descriptive of the many sunrises over the Craig Hill Lower Range Lighthouse, locally known as Millers Island Light, as seen from the southernmost and easternmost points of the peninsula. Due to the nautical nature of the community and it's relationship to the Chesapeake Bay, surrounding the graphic is an oval constructed of brick symbolizing a compass rose, including four keystones depicting the cardinal directions of North, South, East, and West. |
